YOU CAN'T BEAT PLAIN
OLD WATER
Research has proven that a fluid which contains
exactly the right quantities of carbohydrate and
minerals can be absorbed from the gut at least
as effectively as water, and has the added benefit
of helping prevent dehydration and muscle fatigue.
Moreover, the pleasant, non sweet taste of sports
drinks has been shown to encourage people to drink
more frequently during exercise.
SPORT NUTRITION IS ONLY
IMPORTANT FOR ENDURANCE EVENTS
What defines an "endurance event"??
Even strength training, sprint events and team
sports have high energy and fluid demands where
sports nutrition strategies and supplements can
be of use, especially during training.
YOU CAN'T BEAT A CHOCOLATE
BAR FOR ENERGY
While it's true chocolate tastes good and contains
a lot of energy, it's not the best fuel for exercise
and doesn't even give you a quick energy boost
because it's slow to digest. If your energy levels
are poor, look at what might be lacking from your
diet rather than reaching for a 'quick fix' and
leave chocolate as
a treat to savour when you have time to relax
and enjoy it.
IT'S ONLY MEANT FOR COMPETITION
Your performance in competition is affected by
the effectiveness of your training and your pre-event
nutrition. It's important to have enough energy
for training and recover well between sessions,
and sports nutrition supplements are useful inclusions
towards maintaining good day-to-day nutritional
habits.
Your should also practice ALL race strategies
during training as much as possible..
SWIMMERS DON'T SUFFER
FROM DEHYDRATION
Despite being in water, swimmers actually do perspire
and can lose body water during a session, especially
if it's particularly hard or long. Taking a water
bottle poolside and drinking small amounts between
sets is important for preventing dehydration.
NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS
CAN MAKE YOU PUT ON WEIGHT
Any food used inappropriately in the diet can
make you put on weight. Nutritional supplements
are designed to meet a specific purpose related
to achieving energy and/or fluid needs around
exercise. Furthermore, being based on carbohydrate
they will be readily utilised during exercise
and less likely to find their way to body fat
stores.
IF IT TASTES GOOD IT
CAN'T BE GOOD FOR YOU
We believe that if it doesn't taste good, you
may never discover just how good it can be for
you. Our research scientists have succeeded in
retaining the vital nutritional content without
sacrificing taste.
All this means that pb
products will
be more successful in achieving what it's designed
for - helping athletes optimise training and competition.
NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS
ARE NOT NECESSARY IF YOU EAT A WELL BALANCED DIET
We all know that good nutrition is essential and
that if eating a well balanced diet, additional
vitamins and minerals aren't generally required.
However, heavy training loads combined with hectic
schedules can put a strain on even the most focussed
athlete and may even increase some nutrient needs.
Most athletes will benefit from the wise use of
nutritional supplements such as those in the pb
range.
ALL THESE DRINKS GIVE
ME STOMACH CRAMPS
Cramps are definitely not a myth, BUT the reasons
for stomach cramps can be traced
to a number of possible causes:
a) Consuming solid food too close to the
commencement of exercise or competition
b) Delaying drinking for too long after
exercise has begun - the sooner you start drinking,
the more easily it will be absorbed
c) Drinking too much at one time - it's far better
to drink early and often than to wait a while
and try to drink a large volume when your gut
may have already started shutting down
d) Drinking the wrong kind of fluids immediately
before or during exercise and competition.
Some types of fluids have too much or the wrong
type of carbohydrate in them and will do more
harm than good - sports drinks are designed very
carefully to be absorbed effectively in your gut.
e) Nervous stomach can cause cramps BUT
usually because it affects what and how you eat
and drink. Good nutrition and hydration habits
will help overcome these problems.
